Hello!

My name is Jackie Damp.  Where do I start with who I am!  I’m a Mom, a wife, a health coach, a fitness coach, a personal trainer, and a group fitness instructor.  I LOVE it all! I’m 31 years old (Yeah 80s!) and feel the best I have in my entire life!  I’m happily married to my best friend – we met while I interned at the bank and hit it off while listening to Alice in Chains!  I went to school for accounting & spanish and up until January 2013, I was working for a large bank here in Pittsburgh.  January 2nd, 2013, we welcomed our amazing son Layne Vincent into the world and I was lucky enough to be able to stay home with him!  I am a fitness coach, an ACSM certified personal trainer, teach group exercise classes at the Western Area YMCA here in Pittsburgh, and am a Health Coach through IIN.  Currently, I teach Turbo Kick, Insanity and PiYo.  I love them all!

But really, I am totally random, love to laugh, and in my own mind am pretty good at making other people laugh (sometimes I’m the comedian and the audience, but hey, ya gotta have fun and laugh at yourself sometimes, right?)! I am also pretty sure that there isn’t one song out there that I haven’t messed up the lyrics to! Speaking of songs, I LOVE music! My music taste fits me – RANDOM! I’m mainly a rocker chic (hey, I have 9 tattoos, did I mention that?!), but also love grunge, 80s, 90s, 90s R&B & rap, Turbo (yes, I consider it its own genre!), country, latin music. I also love funny shows like Big Bang Theory, Wipeout, and Modern Family; have a slight addition to the original 90210 and Full House; and love cooking shows like Rachael Ray & the Chew!

I’m also that crazy dog lady that loves my dog Max like a child! You know, the kind that sees a dog and squeaks out “PUPPY” and runs towards it. If you have a dog, you know what I’m talking about…you have probably picked up your dog and run from me or someone like me while out for a walk at some point in your life, wondering why is this crazy lady running at my dog?!

I was born and raised in the lovely town of Erie, PA and have a sister who is only 18 months younger than me, she’s my BEST friend! Our favorite thing to do together is drive around with my iPod and sing and dance to whatever comes on! And my Mom is just amazing…she’s my hero! She was a single parent and the 3 of us are very close and now I have an amazing stepdad Ron too! We have a huge family…my Mom has 8 brothers and sisters and last time I tried to count, we had 20 some cousins! It’s fun and crazy at the same time.

I graduated from Pitt in 2006 with a Bachelor’s in Accounting and a Bachelor’s in Spanish. I know, strange combination! I sadly don’t use Spanish much in real life, but todavia puedo hablarlo y comprenderlo! We live in Pittsburgh, and we love just hanging out with Layne and Max, going for walks, going to rock concerts (when we can find a sitter!), watching football, hanging out with friends, and just having fun!

I think it’s clear from everything I have said that I am a health and fitness nut! But, I didn’t always feel this way. I always had an unhealthy relationship with food, and I went from one end of the spectrum to the other when it came to food…like eating disorders and diet pills to binging and becoming overweight. And exercise…it was either non-existent or punishment for a not so healthy meal. In high school, I struggled with eating disorders, depression, anxiety and low self esteem and spent my time constantly feeling inadequate. When I went to college, I ended up on the other side of the spectrum! I became so focused on schoolwork, working part time, and spending time with my friends that I stopped caring about my health and gained 30 lbs.

So, when I graduated in 2006, I had had enough. I decided to take control and quit being unhappy with myself. I started eating healthy and exercising, and something amazing happened. I not only lost 30 lbs and felt healthy, but I felt amazing ABOUT MYSELF! I no longer had those nagging thoughts that I am not good enough, that I’m not pretty enough or thin enough. I started liking myself for who I was and stopped comparing myself to other people. I suddenly had confidence. And now, I still feel great and I’m happy with myself and I’m able to live my life without feeling like hiding!  I gained about 25-30 lbs while pregnant with Layne.  I have lost all the baby weight and then some but am still working on my journey as I would like to tone my midsection (like all Moms!).  I am doing this by continuing Beachbody workouts, teaching, and eating healthy (I’m a crazy planner as you can see by my meal plan section!)

It’s been an incredible journey and I’m loving life! I’m still on my fitness journey, still working on toning up, but I’m happy and having fun doing it! Now, I am sharing it with others as a health and fitness professional! I LOVE helping others on their fitness journey, it’s such an AMAZING feeling to watch people reach their goals!
